New World Blogger has a link from Slate about video games in countries where the enemy is your country (or something, I can’t figure out how to describe in succinctly; think Japanese playing Medal of Honor: Rising Sun). Just to point out, the Medal of Honor game sucks horribly on Xbox. But this is something that doesn’t surprise me. Too many people take these games too seriously, missing the point that it IS just a game. I’ve played violent video games for years and I’m almost a pacifist.
Bryant discusses free trade. Incidentally, there’s some kind of talk here going on right now on the FTAA. I’m lazy, so I’m here.

Yeah I thought that article by Slate was pretty interesting…I’ll never forget the reaction some of my German friends had at seeing my Axis and Allies game — “what? you play and pretend to be the Nazis trying to win the war?” Yes, it sounds twisted. But sometimes a game is just a game, surprisingly enough. I think I had the same reaction when I first heard about Pearl Harbor games and all. But as the article so deftly pointed out, people are sometimes more interested in being allowed to exchange sides and see things from the “other’s” point of view than they are in taking offense.
