The Hunting of the President
Published by Jeff, October 3rd, 2004 in ClintonI watched it the other night. Not bad, but not especially good overall. For one thing, it feels really choppy, at least after reading the book. When I read the book I was a little disappointed in the lack of debunking with regards to some of the charges. Instead, they point out that these people are crazy and have an agenda, which is enough to cast significant doubts on the claims. It would have been nice to have a little bit about how this or that was almost impossible or whatever. Not to say a lot of charges weren’t shown to be false (Whitewater), but I got that sense at points. The movie exacerbates that sense. I realize it has to leave a lot out, but it really felt like a weak summary of the book. On the other hand, Clinton’s speech that was included was pretty good. But the movie left a lot to be desired and really isn’t that interesting. If you’re looking to be persuaded by it, you won’t be. If you’ve already read the book and are convinced of the facts, you’ll find nothing of interest. If you tend to accept the assertions in the movie, it won’t reinforce them. It’s not exactly a waste of an hour and a half, but I wouldn’t look to learn anything from it. The best thing I can say is that it may interest people and get them to read the book.
