Stewart probably decided that it would be best to take it easy and play it nice for the sake of Karma; also because he is on Comedy Central he is allowed to do that. He is allowed a lot of leeway due to the channel he is on and perhaps that is what makes the show as interesting as it is. I will point out that he has had a lot of intense interviews as of late - several stretching into ten minutes.
