Elect Ron Paul

Another plank of the Ron Paul platform: stop the war on Christmas (yes, I know this isn’t new).

Maybe he’ll put Bill O’Reilly in charge of creating guidelines for proper Christian holiday celebrations. I mean Christmas celebrations! Damn it! I must subconsciously want to destroy Christmas.

I think you’re putting words in his mouth. It’s not part of his platform. He’s just making some general comments on the fact that gov’t is trying to whitewash the culture.

I’ve been dying to say that Christmas is a ruined holiday any way. We don’t even celebrate the real meaning of Christmas. It’s been turned into a sad celebration of consumerism. Christ has been turned into an economic benchmark for retail.

The question is: if you truly believe in Christ, why don’t you live like everyday is Christmas (and I mean the true meaning of Christmas)?

It’s a joke. I was mocking his position in the context of his current presidential run.

Christmas isn’t a ruined holiday the way you mean it. That would imply your true meaning of Christmas was ever celebrated. As far as I know, that isn’t the case. It went from drunken mischief-making to consumer holiday in the early-19th century (in this country, anyway). There was a push to make Christmas worship-centered at that time, but it failed miserably. People have been complaining about consumerism and Christmas since then.

So I guess you could take heart that Christ really hasn’t been turned into an economic benchmark. He’s just a half-assed pretext for said benchmark.

My solution is to ignore both the idiots stampeding to the stores after Thanksgiving and Christ. I like Christmas much more that way.
